Surgery to improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose is a common surgery known as an aesthetic rhinoplasty. Patient dissatisfaction with the appearance of their nose, and the overall effect on facial balance and symmetry create a significant source of patient anxiety and concern. Patients may be unhappy with a nose that has a widened appearance, large or bulbous tip or even a “hump” or “beak” appearance. Aesthetic rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia so you will be asleep during the entire surgery. This surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but sometimes patients stay overnight for observation. Out-of-town patients may stay in one of our overnight recovery suites with a nurse that is available. The surgery itself generally takes 2-3 hours, and may be longer depending on whether there are any additional procedures being performed . After your surgery, you will be able to go home or stay in the overnight facility with office follow-up soon thereafter. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling for about a week or two after surgery, but most patients can usually return to work soon thereafter.
