Liposuction

LiposuctionLiposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today. The procedure is customized and effective, so patients are very satisfied as their results. Specific goals of the procedure are to give patients a slimmer, thinner more proportional look. During your consultation, any affected areas which are typically diet and exercise resistant will be discussed, identified and targeted during your consultation.

During your surgery, fluid and an anaesthetic agent, often with epinephrine, is injected into the targeted areas of concerns. This helps to remove the fat cells, provide anaesthesia and constrict the blood vessels so as to avoid blood loss. Very small incisions are made in the natural skin creases of your body and along garment lines to keep them concealed. Small vacuum like instruments (cannulas) are used to help suction out excess fat deposits often in conjunction with other modalities like ultrasound energy or laser energy.

During your consultation, Dr. Benjamin J. Cousins will examine you, discuss your specific aesthetic goals, provide recommendations and answer any and all questions you may have. On your day of surgery, you will need to have been fasting for at least 8 (eight) hours prior to your surgery. This includes avoiding any food or drink and generally nothing is allowed, not even water or medications.

Liposuction and Liposculpting surgery is performed under general anesthesia so you will be asleep during the entire surgery. This surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but sometimes patients stay overnight for observation. Out-of-town patients may stay in one of our overnight recovery suites with a nurse that is available. The surgery itself generally takes 1-2 hours, and may be longer depending on whether there are any additional procedures being performed . After your surgery, you will be able to go home or stay in the overnight facility with office follow-up soon thereafter. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling for about a week or two after surgery, but most patients can usually return to work soon thereafter.
