Fat transfer involves harvesting your body’s own fat cells with liposuction. After the fat cells are harvested, they are separated and purified, and then injected into specific areas in need of correction or enhancement. Fat transfer is useful for correction of breast asymmetries, liposculpting contour irregularities and other areas such as for hand rejuvenation as the fat can be injected into areas of the hand to give a more youthful, less wrinkled appearance.

Fat transfer surgery is performed under general anesthesia so you will be asleep during the entire surgery. This surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but sometimes patients stay overnight for observation in a fully accredited, state-of-the-art surgery center. Out-of-town patients may stay in one of our overnight recovery suites with a nurse that is available. The surgery itself generally takes 2-3 hours, and may be longer depending on whether there are any additional procedures being performed in combination with your surgery. After your surgery, you will be able to go home or stay in the overnight facility with office follow-up soon thereafter. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling for about a week or two after surgery, but most patients can usually return to work soon thereafter.
