A breast lift or mastopexy is performed to reverse or counter the effects of aging, skin stretching and gravity. These effects create a downward dropping or “sagging” look to breasts known as ptosis. During a breast lift or mastopexy, surgery is used to lift the breast tissue and create a more youthful, symmetric balanced appearance of your breasts. Sometimes this procedure may be used in combination with a breast augmentation or to provide symmetry or a reduction in areolar size/shape.

Breast lift or breast mastopexy surgery is performed under general anesthesia so you will be asleep during the entire surgery. On your day of surgery, you will need to have been fasting for at least 8 (eight) hours prior to your surgery. This includes avoiding any food or drink and generally nothing is allowed, not even water or medications This surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but sometimes patients stay overnight for observation. Out-of-town patients may stay in one of our overnight recovery suites with a nurse that is available. The surgery itself generally takes 2 hours, but more time may be required if additional procedures are performed in combination with the mastopexy. After your surgery, you will be able to go home or stay in the overnight facility with office follow-up soon thereafter. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling for about a week or two after surgery, but most patients can usually return to work soon thereafter.
